Sustainable Mining Development

Overview

There has been a vast move of mineral resources estimation over the past 25 years: geo-statistical techniques have become commonplace and continue to evolve with time; computational horsepower has revolutionized all facets of numerical modeling; mining and processing operations are often larger; and uncertainty quantification is becoming standard practice. So there is a growing need to collect and synthesize the practice of modern mineral resource estimation to practical mining industry personnel ranging from beginning graduate students and young geologists to senior engineers. ATI has crafted a course herewith to meet the ongoing dynamism of the industry. The second part entails a detailed discussion on the methodologies followed in the processing of unconventional uranium as well as the sustainability issues thereto. A Various procedures are analyzed citing practical case studies. Another part of this course covers the principles of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This will enable participants to recognize generic mine occupational health and safety hazards. In addition it is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the impacts they may have on human health and injury if they are not managed to certain standards. Generic hazards include a range of chemical hazards, fatigue, noise, respiratory aspects dust, diesel emissions, radiation, light and musculoskeletal conditions. This course provides students with the skills to manage these hazards under normal operating conditions. An integral component of OHS Management is Emergency Preparedness and this will be dealt with in the second part of this course. This will be exemplified through case studies.
